The Board of the University College Dublin Law Review was honoured to welcome the Chief Justice of Ireland, Mrs. Justice Susan Denham, to launch Volume 11 on October 19th 2011. Chief Justice Denham was joined by other members of the Irish judiciary Mrs. Justice Maureen Harding-Clark and Mrs. Justice Mary Finlay-Geoghegan, who provided the Foreword for Volume 11.
In speaking to the academics, Board members, authors and students that were present, the Chief Justice remarked on how pleased she was that the American institution of a student-run Law Review was gaining traction in Ireland, as she believes it to be of the utmost importance as part of a complete legal education. The mixture of domestic and international authorship of the Review was cited as allowing for a well-rounded perspective to be given on the issues discussed within Volume 11. The articles that were published dealt with a variety of topics, including antitrust laws, human rights and competing interests in the pharmaceutical trade.
The UCD Law Review would like to express sincere thanks to our primary sponsor Arthur Cox, as represented by Ms. Jane Babb at the launch, for their continued support. The Board is also happy to acknowledge A&L Goodbody, the sponsor of our Most Outstanding Article prize. This award was presented by Mr. Alan Roberts to Editor-in-Chief Liane Egan on behalf of Robert Ennis for his article “Competing Priorities in Antitrust Enforcement: Europe and the New Economy.”
